The Nursing Research Partnership began in October, 2005 with the first effort being the development of a strategic plan for 2006-2009 including goals, operations, processes and activities. Goals of the strategic plan are:

1.) Establish a WSU-HFHS Nursing Research Partnership (NRP).
     a. Facilitate and maintain a program of research consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the HFHS and HFHS Nursing.
     b. Facilitate nursing research as a primary goal with useful practice outcomes.
     c. Establish the NRP Office (phone, email, etc.) for scheduled and ad hoc research consultations.
     d. Facilitate links of the NRP with existing HFHS Research structures such as Department of Biostatistics and Research Epidemiology, and HFHS Research Administration for pre-award and post-award support.
     e. Harmonize needed NRP policies and procedures with current HFHS research policies/procedures.
     f. Meet with HFHS nursing leaders, APRNs, staff nurses, and other stakeholders for patient care to include their perspectives and seek their support.

2.) Assist HFHS nursing personnel in establishing and 'operationalizing' a nursing research agenda.
     a. Meet with Advanced Practice Nurses and Staff Nursing Practice groups to assist in the identification of problems based on clinical data and experience.
     b. Assist in prioritizing key researchable problems using Focus Group methodology and other relevant processes.
     c. Assist in the creation/facilitation of special interest research groups among patient care providers within and across the system.
     d. Provide HFHS nurses/interest groups with onsite and online research consultations from College of Nursing (CON) faculty members.
     e. Facilitate access to additional methods and content expertise for HFHS nurses' self-generated proposals developed under the umbrella of the NRP.
     f. Provide lectures and /or discussions re: Research Problems, Sources of Literature, Literature Critiques, Research Designs, Research Utilization Approached, and Evidence-based Practice Approaches with HFHS Nurses.
     g. Assist HFHS nurses to utilize existing science to develop evidenced-based practice protocols.
     h. Assist HFHS nurses to initiate approximately three to five small nursing studies.
     i. Assist in exploring and facilitating internal/external funding applications for HFHS nursing research projects.
     j. Assist in the use of a Research Utilization (RU) model to guide evidence-based practice (EBP), e.g. Iowa, Rogers, Stetzer, and Grove.

3.) Facilitate public communication of the goals, achievements, and products of NRP nursing research efforts.
     a. Two or more nursing research abstracts re-accepted for research presentation locally and nationally.
     b. Co-author an article for HFHS publication that describes the NRP and its goals and activities.
     c. Co-develop a nursing research Web site for the WSUCON-HFHS NRP.
     d. Identify opportunities for participation in conferences, planned seminars, and workshops reflective of the NRP research areas.
     e. Assess opportunities for the translation of research findings into practice, development of evidence-based practice protocols, and publication of said materials in journals mutually agreed upon.
     f. Publish findings for HFHS research studies in refereed nursing and health related journals.

4.) Evaluate the progress of meeting the strategic plan goals for the WSU-HFHS partnership.
     a. Integrate Magnet and other nursing and healthcare research standards of excellence into the NRP.
     b. Utilize national clinical nursing research best practices in the development and implementation of the NRP.
