Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The first step in your nursing career is earning your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). The Wayne State University College of Nursing has a long record of successfully preparing students to begin practicing upon graduation. Graduates average a 96.7-percent first-time passing rate of the state licensure exam (NCLEX-R.N), which is 11-percent higher than the national average and 10-percent higher than the Michigan average.

TRADITIONAL: College students who are entering nursing for the first time can begin traditional nursing studies upon completion of the pre-nursing course requirements. A minimum 2.5 honor point average in prerequisite courses is required for admission consideration. This program is 3 years long.

SECOND CAREER/SECOND DEGREE: The Second Career/Second Degree program is designed for individuals who have completed their undergraduate studies in another field but wish to pursue a career in nursing. This accelerated program allows students to complete their nursing studies in 16 months.

International applicants must complete the equivalent of a US four-year degree, including all state and external/internal examinations required for the degree/diploma. Although a degree in another country may have a name similar to a US degree, this does not necessarily indicate the degree can be accepted as equivalent. For example: three-year general degrees (from Canada, India, Pakistan, France, etc.) are not accepted for admission to the second degree/second career program. In all cases, applicants must have completed a four year Honours degree, or have completed additional undergraduate requirements to be considered for admission.
