The College of Nursing offers an Honors Option for students who are interested in taking Honors courses within the nursing curriculum. The Honors Program at Wayne State University embraces a body of scholars within a large urban research environment, promoting engaged citizenship as a cornerstone for academic excellence through the four pillars of community, service, research and career.
University Honors Co-major (24 credits total)Students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program who are interesting in pursuing both the Nursing Honors Option along with the University Honors co-major requires an additional nine (9) university honors credits from outside of nursing.
Nursing Honors Option (15 credits total)A minimum of fifteen (15) credits is required for the Nursing Honors Option. Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA. Ten nursing courses have been designated as having an Honors component, with a select group of faculty having agreed to augment their instruction with additional Honors coursework. Students should plan to meet with the faculty of record for the below courses to negotiate the honors requirements for courses they select to take as an honors option course.

• NUR 3010 Restorative Care of Adults and Elders with Acute Illness
• NUR 3020 Restorative Care of Adults and Elders with Chronic Illness
• NUR 3400 Introduction to Nursing Research (2 credit hours)
• NUR 4010 Integrative Care of Children & Their Families
• NUR 4020 Integrative Care of Perinatal Family
• NUR 4040 Leadership and Management in Nursing Practice
• Honors Option NUR 4120, Writing Intensive and Honors Thesis (6 credits)
• HON 42XX, Honors Seminar (3 credits, Required for all Nursing Honors Option students)
The following guidelines are for Wayne State University students who indicate an interest in becoming a Nursing Honors student.
From the initial point-of-contact at the College of Nursing or the Wayne State University Honors Program:
1) The interested student is directed to see a College of Nursing Office of Student Affairs (OSA) advisor regarding the Nursing Honors option. The contact person in the Office of Student Affairs is Ms. Moira Fracassa
2) The OSA Advisor will review the Nursing Honors option template and nursing honors courses with the interested student and print out the Honors application from Honors Web site.
3) The OSA Advisor will refer the Student to one of the Nursing Honors Faculty Advisors.

5) The primary contact person at the University Honors Department is Liza Lagman Sperl. Questions about University requirements for the Honors program should be directed to Ms. Lagman Sperl.
6) Students enrolled in University or the Nursing Honors option will be entered into OSA Honors database by the OSA Advisor or designee.
7) Nursing Honors option students are expected to meet with their assigned Nursing Honors Faculty Advisor at least yearly to review their progress in Nursing Honors.
8) Nursing Honors option students are expected to arrange a meeting within the first two weeks of each semester with the Faculty of Record for approved courses in which they elect to complete an honors component.
9) Nursing Honors Students are expected to complete and submit the necessary signed Honors paperwork to the University Honors Program (due dates for signed faculty-student negotiated contracts are due by the third week of classes each semester) within the University guidelines.
